History was often written by men about other men, while women’s lives were deemed inferior and unworthy of recording. As a consequence of this, our understanding of women’s lives has been harder to discern, since they have been overshadowed, and in some cases completely overlooked by men.
But this was the time of great and powerful women, such as Elizabeth I and Catherine de Medici, who proved to the world they could be the equals and superiors of men.
This Talk delves into the feminine world, looking at all aspects of women’s lives from education, marriage and even touching upon the oldest trade in history.
