There is a lot of history to study in the combined study of Poverty, Pestilence and Privies – it will be interactive with the older members of the audience, them being able to regale Gen Z with the indignities they suffered as children with Privies and bathing.
What is the present purpose of the excellent closed Borough Council conveniences in the Town Centre?
Can you name and date a serious bout of Tewkesbury Pestilence – which soon led to a nearby public good?

Having retired from History Teaching in Tewkesbury in 2001, I volunteered to be a Parish Councillor in Tewkesbury in 2007. I was shocked when I was placed in charge of the Town’s Public Conveniences, but I soon realised that it was an important role as the Borough Council decided to close the Town’s Conveniences. That Council soon realised that normally placid local people can be roused to outrageous ire by any interference with the Hospital and Conveniences. By 2012 we negotiated the building of replacement conveniences in Spring Gardens and Gloucester Road – they are not perfect but are a benefit to tourists and the Town’s economy.
Being retired I did have the opportunity to travel out of season. My partner is very keen on finding winer sun and I agreed – providing I could study Tewkesbury history and so I was able to visit public conveniences for a study. I had to agree that A-grade Conveniences were in Tewkesbury – which the Borough Council wished to close -as well as in Havanna but the worst were in Egypt.
