Ledbury Waytes: Medieval to Renaissance Concert
Waytes are minstrels employed by borough and city chamberlains to act as a kind of musical watch – deriving from the custom of stationing a watchman on the battlements of castles throughout the night. They would act as look-outs for nocturnal attackers and to sound the hours. Similarly, such castle watchmen could be employed to patrol the walls and streets of a town or city.
We entertain with a variety of tunes and songs representing “Music Through the Ages ” on a variety of instruments. To complement the music and the instruments, the Waytes dress in period clothing to evoke “Past Times With Good Companie.” The period atmosphere is complemented by performances of dances and readings appropriate to the time.
