Pastime with Good Company: An Introduction to Early Renaissance Dance Workshop
Step back in time and experience the delights of music and dance from the 16th century. Join the Merchant’s House Musicians as they play the music and teach the dances of the early renaissance.
Learn to dance branle’s (16th century circular country dances): ‘Horses’, and ‘The Washerwoman’s’. Plus, a ‘Pavan’ (a slow processional dance) and the ‘Basse Dance’ (a stately court dance). No prior knowledge required.
The Merchant’s House Musicians are a trio of Gloucestershire based re-enactors and musicians who specialise in the music of the Tudor and medieval periods.
They play lively songs and dance tunes, as well as courtlier stately dances. Their instruments include the mandore (a small member of the lute family), pipe and tabor (a portable drum).
