Hire the Old Baptist Chapel

The Old Baptist Chapel is available to hire to individuals or groups who wish to put on art exhibitions, concerts, workshops, corporate events or talks.

The Old Baptist Chapel is a 15th century, grade 2* listed historic site and its main use is as a visitor attraction and education centre. It also provides space for concerts, exhibitions, art exhibitions, workshops and events. It is managed on a not for profit basis by the John Moore Museum, which is run by The Abbey Lawn Trust. The Trust is a charity whose remit is To secure of the public benefit, the preservation, protection and improvement of listed buildings adjoining Tewkesbury Abbey.

Resources: kitchenette & accessible WC, screen & projector, gallery quality hanging system, excellent acoustics, seating capacity: 80, tables. Please note that there is no broadband in the chapel.

 

Hire Charge

HIRE PERIOD: The chapel may be hired for a minimum of 3 hours and a maximum of ONE WEEK.

CORE HIRE PERIODS: Morning: 9am – 12noon | Afternoon: 1pm – 5pm | All Day: 9am – 5pm | Evening: 5pm – 10pm | Full Day: 9am to 10pm

HIRE CHARGE: Morning or Afternoon only: £45 |   All Day: £90  |  Evening only: £75 |  Full Day: £150  |  Week: £350

Marketing & Publicity

The Museum has a team member whose role is to provide general publicity for the Chapel and we are happy to assist hirers, who are responsible for advertising their own exhibitions, by including their events in our general marketing.

We offer the following for all concerts, workshops and exhibitions:

  • Full details and image on our website
  • Full details and image on our Facebook Page
  • Website link on our Twitter feed
  • Display of one A4 poster in the museum
  • Display of 1 A4 poster in the display box outside the Chapel
  • Display of any leaflets for the event in the museum and the Chapel
  • A list of media contacts (newspapers, magazines, radio and websites) and advice.

TICKET SALES: We are happy to sell tickets for your event in the museum, but cannot be the sole box office.

Catering & Alcohol

KITCHEN: There is a small kitchen with kettle and fridge

CATERING: Please ask if you require an urn, crockery, glassware or catering for events. We can arrange to suit your budget.

ALCOHOL: The chapel is unlicensed. Alcohol may not be sold but can be offered for a donation, included in a ticket price or offered at private view or functions.

Capacity

For concerts or seated events the capacity is limited to 28 (1st floor) & 42 (ground floor). The first floor has a low balcony and only seating around the balcony will have a view of the performance area. We advise selling any other first floor seats as restricted view. For exhibitions, you will find that 90 people in the building is the maximum for comfort.

Access by car

The chapel is down a medieval alley way. The nearest car park is across the road (Abbey Lawn Car Park). We can arrange for a parking space with prior notice.

Insurance

The chapel is insured (including public liability insurance) but not any equipment or artwork belonging to the Hirer.

Music

The Chapel has a Performing Rights license.
